RIYADH: Last week, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman revealed that a new master plan for the Abha International Airport in the country was launched.
In turn, the new Abha airport intends to personify a coherent architectural entity congruent with the vernacular legacy of the Asir region, and thus create an imprint in the realm of the kingdom.
It will expand the current terminal area of 10,500 m2 to 65,000 m2 which will be a six times increase. Current plans for expansion’s first phase should be finished off in 2028.
The expansion involves building passenger boarding bridges; self-service facilities for improved travel process; and high capacity parking lots.
